The City of Toronto’s Canada Day fireworks display at Centennial Park and Ashbridges Bay will take place on Monday, July 1.
The fireworks display, which will begin at 10 p.m., can be seen on the boardwalk near Victoria Park Avenue and is expected to draw large crowds. The events will take place regardless of weather conditions.
A variety of police resources will be in the park and other areas to ensure everyone can enjoy the event safely. Fire Services, EMS personnel, and City by-law officers will also be on-scene.
Parking enforcement will be stepped up over the long weekend and drivers should expect major delays, including on Lakeshore Boulevard East. Parking will also be restricted. People should consider taking public transit, if possible, and the TTC will be adding additional buses to routes.
Police would like to remind people that personal bonfires and fireworks in City parks and on beaches are prohibited, and could result in seizures and fines. As well, no one under 18 years of age can possess fireworks.
If there is a threat to public safety or obstruction of officers or other emergency services, officers will use their discretion to disperse crowds or lay charges.
Residents of Humber Bay Shores are being urged to be careful with the use of fireworks and that police will be in the area.
Some reminders include:
– Do not bring personal fireworks to the beach. The City will be providing a spectacular fireworks display that everyone can enjoy safely.
– Drinking alcohol on the beach is prohibited.
– Fires are not permitted in parks, beaches, or public spaces, except for City-designated fire pits (which require a permit).
– If possible, take transit to and from the beach to avoid traffic and other parking issues. There will be limited road use during certain times in the evening.
